People have different views on cities. There are those for whom they are exciting and vibrant, and those who find them dirty, noisy, and dangerous. The truth is that cities are in fact all of the above. They are lively but noisy, big but dirty, and exciting but dangerous.
Cities have both advantages and disadvantages. One of the greater merits is the better job opportunities you might find there. People expect to live better if they are in a city. Another thing is the cultural life. Cities have malls and public transport to get you to wherever you are heading. The cinemas, the theatres, the restaurants, the bars all things that we appreciate but do not pay attention to unless they are taken from us. The merits of cities make our everyday life easier and allow us to enjoy life to the fullest. For instance, what young adult does not like to go out to a club with some friends in the evening to forget about real life and problems for awhile and just have fun. Cities are also exciting. Many small town kids dream of one day moving to the big city and becoming someone worthwhile, someone who their friends and families would be proud of. In a way, cities represent everyone’s dream of leading an exciting and meaningful life.
Of course cities have their disadvantages as well. First of all, all cities are polluted. The air and water are dirty and there are barely any trees or parks to speak of. The pollution could take a toll on a person’s health. Second, cities are dangerous. According to statistics, in New York a man is hit by a car every twenty minutes and robberies occur even more often than that. Finally, cities may represent dreams but that does not mean that they fulfill them. Many people who left their homes to live in the big city now have no home to speak of and are forced to either rob others or feed from trashcans.
In brief, cities are polluted and dangerous but even so I believe the advantages more than outweigh the disadvantages.
