Polya Lesova studied English at Club Raven in Sevlievo from 1997 until 2001. At Club Raven, Polya not only learned how to speak, read and write in English fluently, but she was also taught the skills necessary to apply to prestigious universities. For Polya, the club was like a second home full of good friends and inspiring teachers like Ilian and Galya Ilievi. At Club Raven, Polya took a number of intensive English courses, which prepared her to perform exceptionally well on the TOEFL and SAT exams. As a result, in 2001, Polya was accepted to study at the American University in Bulgaria on a merit-based scholarship. In 2003, Polya was selected as a Goldman Sachs Global Leader — she was one of 100 second-year students worldwide recognized for leadership potential and academic excellence. Also in 2003, she was one of 40 Eastern European students awarded a highly competitive undergraduate-exchange-program fellowship by the Open Society Institute to study at Rutgers University in New Jersey for one academic year. In 2005, Polya graduated from AUBG with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science; she also received an award for outstanding achievement in journalism and mass communication at AUBG. After AUBG, Polya moved to the media capital of the world: New York City; she was awarded a merit-based scholarship to attend New York University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. In 2006, she graduated with a master of arts in journalism degree from NYU. Polya is currently London bureau chief at MarketWatch, a leading financial news website, which is part of the Wall Street Journal Digital Network. In that role, Polya manages MarketWatch’s coverage in Europe and the United Kingdom. She previously worked as a markets reporter at MarketWatch in New York and Frankfurt. She has reported for MarketWatch from Germany, Turkey, Brazil, Thailand and Eastern Europe.
