Полина Славчева

After finishing her instruction at Club Raven in 2000, Polina Slavcheva earned a scholarship to the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG). She graduated from AUBG in 2005 with a major in Journalism and Mass Communications and a minor in Fine Arts. Until 2008, she worked as a reporter for several Economedia publications in Sofia. In 2007, she was among 10 Balkan journalists to receive the Balkan Fellowship for Journalistic Excellence from the Robert Bosch and ERSTE foundations and visited 9 European countries to research stalled road construction projects meant to connect countries formerly split by the Iron Curtain or by warfare. The same year, she won a Fulbright Graduate Student Grant and a Thanks to Scandinavia Grant. The Fulbright exchange program helped her study at the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program – ranked second in the USA – where she earned her Master of Fine Arts degree. After returning to Bulgaria she became a public relations expert at State Fund “Agriculture”. She is thinking of continuing her education in Europe or the USA with a PhD in comparative literature.
